WATERVILLE, Maine — A man with prior convictions for domestic violence assault is facing a felony charge after assaulting his girlfriend, according to police.

Michael Brown, 35, allegedly choked and threw the woman to the ground at her residence on Wednesday, according to Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.

The woman reported the incident to police on Saturday, and Brown was picked up at his residence, Rumsey said.

Brown was booked into the Kennebec County Jail on a Class C felony charge of domestic violence assault, Rumsey said. He remained there Monday.

Brown faces up to five years in jail if convicted. The woman did not require medical attention.
