WALDOBORO — The Saco All-Stars overcame an early four-run deficit and outslugged Westbrook 8-5 to win the Little League Baseball ages 10-11 state championship tournament Wednesday.
Holbrook Little League of Holden defeated Augusta 11-10 in the third-place contest.
Michael Bourgault hit a grand slam and a triple and finished with six RBIs to propel District 4 champion Saco to the victory. The winners finished the event with a 3-1 record.
Westbrook (3-1) threatened to regain the lead when it had the potential tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the sixth, but the District 6 champs could not score.
In the consolation game, relief pitcher Nick Lakeman induced a Caleb MacFarland groundout with the potential tying run at third base in the sixth inning to help Holbrook edge Augusta.
Jared Hoxie and Jacob Miller stroked run-scoring singles to highlight a six-run second inning to pace District 3 winner Holbrook, which finished the tournament at 2-2. Sam Peterson drove in Preston Weatherbie, who had singled, with an RBI single during a three-run, fourth-inning rally that provided the eventual game-winning run.
Miller added another single for Holbrook while Jared Smith also singled.
Isaac Copage delivered a two-run single as District 5 titlist Augusta (2-2) jumped out to the lead with a four-run first inning. He also posted a double and another RBI. Reed Hopkins chipped in with an RBI single and MItchell Tarrio doubled.
