School board candidate steps forward in South Thomaston

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine — One candidate has stepped forward to represent the town on the Regional School Unit 13 Board.

Christine Curtis returned nomination papers to the town office Tuesday to qualify for the Aug. 21 election to be held at a special town meeting. The election to fill the town’s vacant single seat on the RSU 13 Board is the only article on that town meeting warrant.

The deadline for candidates to file papers is Monday to be considered for election at the Aug. 21 meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at the town office.

The town has been without a representative to the board since Dr. Eric Schenk announced a month ago he was resigning effective immediately. He cited divisions within the board and felt he was not able to be effective on it.

South Thomaston is part of RSU 13 which includes Rockland, Thomaston, St. George, Owls Head and Cushing.
