Motorcyclist sent to hospital after early-morning collision with van in Durham

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

DURHAM, Maine — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital early Tuesday after his motorcycle collided with a van, according to police.

The biker, whom State Police Trooper Jodell Wilkinson declined to identify pending family notification, was headed southbound on Route 125 just before 8:30 a.m. when a passenger van driven by a woman, whose name is also being withheld, attempted to turn onto the road and struck the bike.

The woman’s van was at a stop sign, Wilkinson said.

The driver of the van “stopped, looked both ways, and basically didn’t see the motorcycle,” Wilkinson said.

The biker, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown to the pavement and suffered a head laceration, road rash on his back and an ankle injury. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.

The van’s driver was not injured in the crash, Wilkinson said. She was the only person in the van, and it does not appear she was distracted.
