Belfast teens mix love, irony while sporting T-shirts

BELFAST, Maine — Who says teenage boys don’t have a deep, abiding love for their hometowns?

Zach Collier, Will Mossing and Mike McFadden, all 16, like to wear their “I Love Belfast” T-shirts around town.

The teens purchased the shirts from the Chocolate Drop Candy Shoppe on Lower Main Street.

“We think it’s funny, because they’re made for tourists,” Mossing said, hinting that there may be more irony than community pride involved.

Chocolate Drop Candy Shoppe manager Dawn Desmaris said the store began having the shirts made last year after customers told her how much they love Belfast.

Belfast sports teams and their boosters also are fond of the shirts, which are made at Searsport’s Inner Sense Screenprinting and can be customized.
