Westbrook, Holbrook post wins in state LL tourney for ages 10-11

WALDOBORO — Westbrook and Holbrook have advanced to semifinals of the state Little League baseball All-Star tourney for ages 10-11 after weekend action.

Westbrook beat Saco 6-4 on Saturday and shut out Waldo 10-0 on Sunday. Augusta beat Holbrook 3-1 on Saturday, but Holbrook rebounded for a 22-5 victory over Ellsworth on Sunday.

On Monday, Saco will take on Waldo at 3 p.m. and then Ellsworth will battle Augusta at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, Augusta used a strong pitching performance from Mitchell Tarrio to defeat Holbrook as he struck out 11 and aided his own cause with a sixth-inning single.

Nick Lakeman tripled and singled for Holbrook and Colby Miller chipped in with a double.

On Sunday, Holbrook pounded out 10 hits for 22 runs to beat Ellsworth.

The Holbrook stars got the scoring going in the first inning with five runs helped by Nick Lakeman’s two-run single. Holbrook put the game away with another 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning fueled by Preston Weatherbie’s and Colby Miller’s two-run singles. Nick Lakeman and Jared Smith also added RBI singles in the 6th inning.

Weatherbie pitched into the fifth inning and struck out six and didn’t give up an earned run for Holbrook. He helped his own cause with two singles and two RBIs. Lakeman drove in five runs with a double and two singles and Miller drove in three. Jared Smith added two singles and an RBI.

Connor Wagstaff had two singles and an RBI for Ellsworth and Christian Bosse added a single.
