MADISON, Maine — A Sanford man was arrested early Saturday morning after he hit traffic barrels surrounding a construction site, according to police.

Daniel Herbert Whitehouse, 46, of Sanford ran over the barrels near the intersection of Routes 201 and 148, Sgt. David Trask said Sunday.

“The intersection is being rebuilt, and there are plastic barrels put out as a barrier around the construction site,” Trask said.

Trask did not know Whitehouse’s exact blood-alcohol level but said that it was over the legal limit.

Whitehouse was charged with operating under the influence, criminal mischief and failure to report a property damage accident. He was released later Saturday morning on $100 bail, according to the Somerset County Jail.
