FORT FAIRFIELD – William E. "Wink" Dumond Jr., 83, husband of the late Shirley E. (Green) Dumond, passed away Wednesday morning, July 25, 2012, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born June 4, 1929, in Fort Fairfield, the son of William E. Sr. and Elizabeth A. (Holmes) Dumond.

William attended Fort Fairfield schools, and served in the Maine National Guard from 1950 to 1954 and also in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, as a radio operator and A.P.C. driver at Fort Polk, La. He was married to Shirley E. Green, March 3, 1952, and was a lifelong communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Mr. Dumond had been employed in the potato farming industry, having been employed by C.A. Powers Farms, Inc., Fort Fairfield, for many years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.

In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, March 6, 2001; one grandson, Jeremiah L. Blackey; two brothers, Joseph and Winston Dumond; and four sisters, Emma Green, Beulah Theriault, Laura Dumond and Elouise Emery. He is survived by three sons, Michael Dumond of Michigan, Gordon Dumond and wife, Claudette, of Caribou, and Stephen Dumond and companion, Brenda Koelsch, of Fort Fairfield; five daughters, Kathleen J. Ulman of Fort Fairfield, Elaine Sargent and husband, Jay, Lynn Cheever and husband, Tom, Lisa Dumond, and Julie Holt, all of New Hampshire; one brother and sister-in-law, Loomis "Lloyd" and Anna-Rae Dumond of East Corinth; 24 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family thanks Lori Kemp and husband, Bill, for the many years of care and support given to William and Shirley, who loved Lori like their own daughter.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Raymond Morency. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. Interment with military honors will take place after the funeral Mass at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Dumond to American Lung Association, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.
