ROCKPORT, Maine — In conjunction with its 60th anniversary celebration, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art will host its 35th annual Benefit Art Auction and Dinner Sunday, July 29, at Point Lookout in Northport. Kaja Veilleux of Thomaston Place Auction Galleries will serve as auctioneer for the event. Tickets for the auction and dinner are $125 each and are available by calling 236-2875. Proceeds from the auction benefit CMCA’s exhibitions and education programs.

For six decades, CMCA has contributed to the advancement of contemporary art in Maine. Over the years, it has exhibited the work of hundreds of artists connected to Maine, and its annual auction attracts collectors and supporters from throughout Maine and beyond.

Artists who have contributed work for the auction include Jeffery Becton, John Bisbee, Katherine Bradford, Tillman Crane, Lois Dodd, Linden Frederick, Harold Garde, Charlie Hewitt, Alison Hildreth, William Irvine, Yvonne Jacquette, Frederick Lynch, Alex Katz, Colin Page, Dennis Pinette, Peter Ralston, Susan Van Campen, Mark Wethli, Todd Watts and Nancy Wissemann-Widrig. One hundred pieces of art will be up for bid.

“The CMCA auction is a not-to-be missed event,” said auction chairwoman Heather Hearst of Camden. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to acquire great pieces by some of Maine’s most talented artists and support CMCA at the same time. It will be a fun evening for all who attend.”

Art to be auctioned is available for viewing at CMCA in the exhibition “Art to Collect Now,” on display through Saturday, July 28. To view the art online, visit cmcanow.org. An illustrated auction catalog, with text by Deborah Weisgall, accompanies the exhibition.

CMCA expressed gratitude to auction sponsors Machias Savings Bank and Nancy Hughes of Camden Coast Real Estate, and to auction media sponsor Maine Home + Design magazine.
