Bangor gains No. 1 seed for Zone 1 Legion baseball tourney, Motor City second

BANGOR — Motor City finished the regular season with a 16-2 American Legion baseball victory over Calais Friday night.

Motor City finished with 16-2 record in Zone 1, tied for first place with Bangor, but Bangor secured the No. 1 seed based on the head-to-head tie breaker as it defeated Motor City in two of three games during the regular season.

Motor City will begin its Zone 1 tourney play when it takes on third-seed Brewer at 4 p.m. at Husson University’s Winkin Complex in Bangor, site of the tourney.

Bangor plays in the next game at 7 p.m. against the winner of Sunday night’s play-in game between No. 5 Penquis and No. 4 Hampden. The game was not reported Sunday night.

The tourney continues with a losers bracket game on Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by a winners bracket game at 7 p.m. Two more games will be played at 4 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, with an if-necessary game scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.

At Husson University’s Winkin Complex in Bangor Friday night, Motor City took advantage of 14 Calais walks, two hit batsmen, four errors and six hits en route to the win in their regular season finale.

Motor City enters the Zone 1 tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face Brewer at 4 p.m. Monday at the Winkin Complex.

Motor City was paced by Andrew Catlin, who scored three runs, had two singles and stole three bases. Sean O’Donnell ripped a three-run triple in the second inning and singled.

Jeremy Beers has an RBI triple for Calais, which at 2-16.
