BENNINGTON, Vt. — Vermont’s Bennington Museum is getting a new executive director.

Robert Wolterstorff is currently an independent curator and nonprofit consultant based in Portland, Maine.

Wolterstorff served previously as director of Victoria Mansion in Portland and the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion in Philadelphia. He has held curatorial and research positions in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and other locations.

The predecessor of the Bennington Museum was founded in 1852 to celebrate Bennington’s colonial past and the Revolutionary War’s Battle of Bennington.

The museum now has the world’s largest public collection of Grandma Moses paintings and 19th-century Bennington pottery.

Museum Trustee Chairman Ray Bolton says the museum is looking forward to working with Wolterstorff to develop new donors, sponsors, and members while celebrating the history and heritage of southern Vermont.
