PORTLAND, Maine — A 48-year-old Pennsylvania man has won the 31st annual Peaks to Portland ocean swim.

Scott Yeomans of Bethlehem won Saturday’s 2.4-mile open-water competition from Peaks Island in Portland Harbor to the city’s East End Beach in a time of 45 minutes, 32 seconds.

He was followed by Sam Manhart of Hampden and Jeremy Hutchinson of Portland.

Pamela Torrey of Portland was the first woman finisher, coming in 11th place overall in a time of 50:14.

More than 300 swimmers finished the race, which is a major fundraiser for the Cumberland County YMCA, with the raised money going toward its financial assistance program. printed on July 24, 2017
