CARMEL — Old Town advanced to the championship round of the District 3 Little League All-Star tourney for ages 10-11 with an 8-4 elimination win over Brewer Thursday.

Old Town will take on Holbrook Saturday in Carmel at 4 p.m.

Old Town scored four runs in the third on a two-run hit by Cree Neptune Bear, three walks and an error.

Eric Lyford then shut down Brewer for the rest of the way to help Old Town advance. Lyford faced only 14 batters over three innings, striking out four while giving up two hits and two walks.

Old Town took the lead in the fifth when Jeremy Stoyell and Nick Avery reached on back-to-back doubles. Neptune Bear then reached on an error, scoring the go-ahead run, and Nate Young followed with a two-run double. Eric Lyford’s infield grounder then drove in the inning’s fourth run.

Zach Steiger sparked Brewer with two shutout innings as his team took an early four-run lead.

Old Town advanced after eliminating host Carmel 17-12 on Wednesday.

Old Town and Carmel posted victories in the tourney on Tuesday when Old Town edged Houlton 17-16 and Carmel beat Hampden/Newburgh 8-6.

Houlton took a 10-3 lead after two innings, highlighted by Zach Cowperthwaite’s solo home run, but Old Town responded in the bottom of the sixth and rallied for six runs to take the victory as Nick Avery earned the win in relief.

Carmel rallied with five runs in the top of the sixth to take the victory, capped by a bases-loaded two-run, two-out single by Cody Hawes. A combination of an infield single by Raife Taylor and several walks accounted for the other three runs.

Hawes, a catcher, earned the victory on the mound after coming on in the fifth inning. He had not pitched this season.

Kent Johnson finished with a 3-for-3 effort for Carmel and Mike Wentworth had three hits for Hampden.

Hampden’s big inning came in the third when it scored three runs on back-to-back doubles by Eric Smith and Ben Watson and a two-run single by Mike Wentworth.
