Christopher Swift wins New England Amateur golf championship

FALMOUTH, Maine — Christopher Swift of Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn., won the New England Amateur golf title by five strokes Thursday following the 36-hole final day at Falmouth Country Club.

Swift, the leader by one stroke after the second round, posted scores of 73 and 72 Thursday for a four-round total of 2-under-par 282 and pulled away from his challengers.

It was Swift’s first amateur championship.

Garren Poirier of Green Mountain National Golf Club in Killington, Vt., Jake Nutter of Manchester (N.H.) Country Club and Herbie Aikens of Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass., tied for second at 287. Poirier had rounds of 69 and 70 Thursday, Nutter shut 70-72 and Aikens had 72-74.

John Hayes IV of Prouts Neck Country Club in Scarborough tied for fifth at 288 after shooting a 76 in the morning and 68 in the afternoon.

Judd Parsons of York Golf & Tennis Club tied for 10th at 292, Maine Amateur champion Seth Sweet of Madison tied for 14th at 295 after rounds of 77-73, Joe Walp of Falmouth CC tied for 29th with 81-72 for 300 and Tommy Stirling of Gorham CC tied for 39th with 80-77 for 304.
