“American Idol” may be getting a worldwide idol as a judge — Mariah Carey. A person familiar with the show’s negotiations said Carey is being pursued to join the judging panel of the Fox talent competition. Carey has also been courted by other talent competitions, and her name has been thrown out in the past for “Idol” and other shows. There are two openings after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced last week they were leaving as judges after two seasons. Randy Jackson, who is a manager, producer and friend of Carey’s, is the only judge left. Grammy-winner Carey is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with numerous No. 1 hits. She’s currently working on a new album, her first since her twins were born last year. It would also give the show a heavy dose of superstardom, which is key considering the star power on shows like “X Factor,” which added Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as judges. … Remember when Coldplay’s “Mylo Xyloto” album came out and singer Chris Martin said the title was just made-up words? Well, there’s a story behind that album title now — an elaborate one. “Mylo Xyloto” is now the main character in a series of comic books that made its debut over the weekend at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The series, written by Mark Osborne of “Kung Fu Panda” and “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie” fame, will be told in six parts wrapping up next year. It’s being published by Matt Groening’s Bongo Comics Group. It seems the hits “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” and “Princess of China” are all connected to the story, which was being developed at the same time as the album, with input from Coldplay. The band says the comic story inspired the album and the tour’s staging.

“We hope you like it,” the band said in a statement. “It was fun making it.”
