Penquis beats up Calais to keep Legion baseball playoff hopes alive

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Penquis kept its playoff hopes alive with a 20-4 American Legion baseball victory over the Calais Suns Sunday.

Penquis is now 6-11 and Calais is 0-15.

Penquis banged out 16 hits with Ryan Rebar leading the charge with a single and two doubles. Matt Chapman jumped in on the hit parade with a single and a double with four RBIs.

Penquis bolted out early by scoring three runs in the first inning and five in the second frame and that’s all the winners would need as Kaleb Smith pitched seven strong innings. He allowed just five hits and two runs while striking out four to earn the victory.

For Calais, Tom Collins and Logan Johnson each had two hits.

Bangor 16, Lumber 7

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Greg Duff threw 97 pitches in eight innings, giving up three earned runs, seven hits and a walk to help Bangor improve to 16-7.

Bangor recorded 20 hits and was paced by Dylan Morris who drove in five runs with three singles and a double. Brendan Moore and Bryan Rouleau each chipped in with three RBIs as Moore notched two singles and a double and Rouleau recorded a single and double. Carl Farnham contributed with three singles and an RBI while Christian Corneil, Hunter Boyce, and Seth Freudenberger each had two hits.

Dustin Sawtelle powered the 4-11 Northern Lumber with seven RBIs on two doubles, a triple and three-run homer. Logan McLaughlin added a double and single.

Motor City 11, Hampden 3

At Hampden Friday night, Evan Pelkey’s two-run home run capped a five-run fifth inning en route to the victory for Motor City.

Gabe Melmed and Casey Estes each chipped in with three singles and an RBI for the winners. Andrew Catlin contributed with two singles, a double and two RBIs while winning pitcher Max Andrews allowed three hits and three runs in seven innings while striking out eight.

Spencer Hartsgrove and Matt Palmer each notched RBI singles for Hampden.
