BANGOR, Maine — Local Democrats must fill the ballot slot left vacant with the departure of House District 17, Rep. Sara Stevens, a member of the Appropriations Committee, and they are holding an informational meeting Tuesday and a caucus July 22.
Stevens dropped out of her race earlier this month, saying in a Facebook post, “Time with our sweet daughter is too precious, and I can’t picture myself making anything else a top priority.”
An informational meeting on Tuesday at the Democratic Campaign Office at 205 Exchange St. in Bangor begins at 7:30 p.m. and will benefit District 17 Democratic voters and potential candidates.
“Any Democrat in District 17 can run, but those voting at next Sunday’s caucus have an added qualification — they have to meet our by-law requirement of having attended at least one of the last six meetings in order to vote for officers or replacement candidates,” Bill Sullivan said.
“Fortunately, there’s a monthly meeting next Saturday so by attending any District 17 Democrat can vote at the caucus.”
The Bangor Democratic City Committee has scheduled a caucus for 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at the Democratic Campaign Office on Exchange Street.
Those with questions about the caucus or voting rules can call 944-8000, 947-4051, or 942-5179.
