Motor City beats Penquis, maintains share of Zone 1 lead

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Motor City kept pace with Bangor atop the Zone 1 American Legion baseball standings on Wednesday night by posting a 7-4 victory over Penquis at Husson University’s Winkin Complex.

The hosts pulled out to an early 5-1 advantage and were able to maintain it. Casey Estes set the pace for Motor City (13-1) with a double, a single and an RBI. Sean O’Donnell knocked two singles with two RBIs to support Cody Collins, who earned the win with five innings of seven-hit, four-run ball with five strikeouts.

Estes worked two innings of one-hit relief with three strikeouts for Motor City, which got two singles apiece from Dom Mowrer, Evan Pelkey and Max Andrews.

For 4-10 Penquis, David Lord recorded two singles and Ryan Rebar knocked a single and had two RBIs.

Hampden 12, Northern Lumber 7

At Hampden, Sean Smith knocked in three runs witha home run and a double and Spencer Hartsgrove plated three runs with a pair of doubles as Hampden earned the victory.

Justin Kasprzak posted a double, two singles and two RBIs for the 8-6 winners, while Kevin Frederick stroked two doubles and a single.

Parker Walker led the way for 3-10 Northern Lumber of Lincoln with three singles and two RBIs. Logan McLaughlin doubled and singled and Brad Moscone hit a two-run double.

Bangor 6, Calais 1

At Calais, Andrew Hillier pitched six strong innings to earn the victory for the Bangor Comrades, who retain a share of first place with Motor City.

Tyler LaPlante pitched a scoreless seventh for 13-1 Bangor, which received run-scoring singles from Sam Huston, Christian Corneil, Bryan Rouleau, Nick Ashey and Sam Stanhope.

Calais (0-13) was paced by an RBI single from Scott Boies.
