PORTLAND, Maine — The Cumberland County Federal Credit Union on Washington Avenue was closed for the remainder of the day Wednesday after a man with a prosthetic leg crashed into the building.

Stephen Wich, 28, of Portland, told the BDN he struggled with his car’s brake pedal when pulling into a handicapped space at the 1345 Washington Ave. Wednesday morning. Wich said he was not hurt in the accident, but the crash smashed a window at the credit union and the branch was closed for the day afterward.

A sign on the door of the credit union informed customers of the closure and apologized for the inconvenience.

The crash occurred just prior to 9:30 a.m.
