BELFAST, Maine — A New Sharon man found himself in trouble Wednesday morning after allegedly breaking some large flowerpots and wreaking havoc on an unusual bench that is part of the “Please, Be Seated” summer street art project.
Aaron Dusoe, 22, came to the Belfast Police Department Wednesday to report that he had lost his backpack and laptop computer, according to Officer Mike Rolerson.
Rolerson went looking for the missing items and found them next to the bench that is located in front of Alexia’s Pizza on High Street.
The bench, Elemental Earth Seat, was created by two Rockland artists from the root system of a blown-down cherry tree. Rolerson said that some of the roots were broken from the bench and debris was still on the sidewalk.
Dusoe also allegedly busted the large flowerpots on Main Street that are located in front of the Green Store and left an empty 12-pack container on the lawn in front of Rollie’s Bar & Grill, also on Main Street.
“He said he was so drunk he doesn’t remember doing anything,” Rolerson said, adding that the incident likely took place around 5 a.m.
Dusoe was issued a criminal summons for criminal mischief and littering, Rolerson said.
