Annual ride to benefit therapeutic riding center

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The fourth annual Reins of Hope Charity Ride will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Jimmy The Greeks at the Maine Mall, to benefit Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center.

Riders follow a route traveling to the RTT farm at 14 Lilac Drive in Windham for tours and horseback riding demonstrations, then continue on with stops at the Iron Tails Saloon in Acton and the Maine Street Bar and Grill in Standish. Riders finish at the Stockhouse Restaurant in Westbrook at 4 p.m.

The suggested donation is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger. Riders are encouraged to raise money from friends, family and co-workers before the ride in support of RTT.

Participants can use an online giving program at razoo.com/team/Reins-Of-Hope-Charity-Motorcycle-Ride, or by seeking donations and sponsorships face to face. Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers. All proceeds benefit RTT’s therapeutic riding programs serving children and adults with disabilities.

The event was founded by and is organized by Custom Hawg of Scarborough owner Tammy Jones. This year’s goal is to best the $10,000 raised last year.

In addition to a full day of bike riding throughout southern Maine, riders enjoy food, live music, cash prizes and a silent auction at the final stop of the day.

To register for the ride or for information, email Tammy Jones at tammy@customhawg.com. For information about volunteering, making a referral or a gift, visit ridingtothetop.org or call 892-2813.
