Field day will feature parade, barbecue, cake baking contest

MONTVILLE, Maine — The 36th annual field day on Saturday, Aug. 11, will benefit the Montville Volunteer Fire Department.

Events start with a two-mile road race beginning at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Route 220 and Center Road.

A parade will begin at 11 a.m. Area residents are urged to bring goats, mules, horses, wagons, bikes, tractors, antiques or other vehicles to join the lineup on Center Road at the intersection of North Ridge and Morrill roads.

A chicken barbecue with side dishes donated by attendees, will take place after the parade. To donate a side dish, contact Karen York at kayork47@gmail.com or 382-3077.

Afternoon activities will include children’s sack races, games and wagon rides provided by Clayton Larrabee.

Judges and contestants also are needed for a cake baking contest. Prizes will be awarded in appearance and taste categories. To register or for information, call Debbi Stevens at 589-4760.

A Chinese auction of more than 100 items will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. To donate an item for the auction, contact Karen York.

The Sonny Perry band and other local musicians will provide music throughout the day.

Local vendors or community members who wish to set up a table to sell their wares may do so free of charge.

Field day T-shirts will be available for purchase, after the announcement of the winning designer.
