BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor woman was arrested Friday after she allegedly stole a car from a man she had met the day before.
Heather Jones, 26, has been charged with Class C felony authorized use of property, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000 or both, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday, citing an arrest report.
At the time of her arrest, Jones was wanted on an active warrant, Edwards said.
According to the arrest report, a Bangor man reported that he had met Jones on Thursday and invited her to stay at his home. He said she was with him on Friday when he went to an appointment on Griffin Road. When he came out about 20 minutes later, Jones — and his gold 2000 Mercedes — were gone.
The man thought she might have gone to Hudson, which is where Maine State Police Trooper Brian Bean found her and the car, Edwards said. The car was towed back to the Bangor police station and then returned to its owner.
Jones was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where she remained Monday night, a jail official said.
