NEW LIMERICK – Arita Anneli Spencer, 73, wife of James M.C. Spencer, went home to her heavenly Father, July 3, 2012, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Varkaus, Finland, daughter of Viljo and Liala (Pursiainen) Reponen.

Arita was educated and also attended Bible College in Finland. She was married to James M.C. Spencer, Jan. 27, 1973, and was a dedicated member of Houlton Full Gospel Assembly. Mrs. Spencer’s faith in her Lord, and love for her friends and family was exhibited by her life as a born again Christian. Arita helped extend God’s love to anyone who needed it and enjoyed helping at nursing homes where she volunteered her time caring for residents and their families. Her green thumb was well known among her family and friends. She was also a wonderful cook, decorator, seamstress and enjoyed crafts.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, James of New Limerick; a son, Matthew C. Spencer and wife, Amy, of Windsor, Conn.; a daughter, Miriam C. Zuraik and husband, Ralph, of Houlton; a brother, Harri Reponen and wife, Gudryn, of Sweden; a sister, Asta Enila and husband, Matti, of West Boylston, Mass.; grandchildren, Isaac Spencer and Evan Spencer, both of Windsor, Conn., Mattaoe and Maraya Zuraik, both of Houlton; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.

In keeping with Arita’s wishes there will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Houlton Full Gospel Assembly Church, Outer Court Street, Houlton, with the Rev. Kevin Hatch officiating. Interment will be at New Limerick Cemetery with a reception after at the church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to Houlton Full Gospel Assembly Church, P.O.
