ORNEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Maine — The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police are on the scene of a shooting on McCorrison Road that left a man injured.

The victim, whose name and age were not released Friday night, was taken to Mayo Regional Hospital and then flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight, Maine State Police Lt. Christopher Coleman confirmed late Friday.

Coleman said that the investigation was in its initial phases but that it appeared the shooting was the result of an altercation between two men.

Coleman said the state police were called in to assist with the investigation by county law enforcement officials. He said the victim’s injuries are life threatening but that to his knowledge, the victim was still alive.

The shooting was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, a Piscataquis County emergency dispatcher said early Friday evening.
