LINCOLN – Douglas Evan Piehler, 68, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at a Bangor hospital, from lung cancer. He was born May 15, 1944, in Union, N.J.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth Piehler; and his brother, Glenn. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Elliott) Piehler; son, Keith E. Piehler and his wife, Jillian (Whitney) Piehler, of Brewer; and son, David S. Piehler and his fiancee, Jennifer Hawkins, of Coventry, R.I.
Douglas moved to Stonington, Conn., after graduating with a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan. His professional life centered around computers, where he worked for various Navy contractors and operated a computer learning center for children. He was a Cubmaster and Webelo leader for his two boys and saw them through the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed exploring Maine with his wife, snowsledding, boating, camping, hiking, spending time with his family, and helping his sons fix up their homes. Some of his favorite memories were on the water, whether it was boating in Buzzards Bay off of Massachusetts or fishing on Mattanawcook Lake right in his backyard in Lincoln. He was a thoughtful husband and father who helped create wonderful memories that his family will cherish forever.
The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at First Congregational Church of Lincoln with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to CancerCare of Maine, Brewer. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave condolences at
