PORTLAND, Maine — Dress for Success Maine was recognized recently for its work helping Maine women. The organization, located at 565 Congress St., Suite 206R, is a nonprofit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. It is an affiliate of Dress for Success Worldwide.
Kimberly Allen, executive director of Dress for Success Maine, accepted the Lublin Award at the 2012 Dress for Success Affiliate Leadership Conference in Los Angeles on June 12. The award is named after the founder of Dress for Success, Nancy Lublin, and is the highest honor given each year to only one or two Dress for Success affiliates that have demonstrated substantial growth and achievement in several key areas.
Along with Dress for Success Maine, Dress for Success Triangle North Carolina also was honored with this year’s Lublin Award.
The Lublin Award recognized Dress for Success Maine for its achievements in 2011, including:
• Increasing its active volunteers by 150 percent.
• Raising 78 percent more money than in the previous year.
• Increasing membership of The Professional Women’s Group, a networking and professional development group provided free of charge to Dress for Success clients, by 50 percent.
“At Dress for Success Maine, we are very excited about receiving the Lublin Award — and we’re even more excited about achieving the goals that empower Maine women,” said Allen. “With the continued support of our communities, we can reach even more women in the year ahead. But we urgently need Mainers’ help. Please give time, give clothes, give money, give what you can.”
Earlier this year, Dress for Success Maine expanded its reach to the Bangor area. Reflecting the expansion, the organization’s name changed from Dress for Success Southern Maine to Dress for Success Maine. The Bangor boutique is scheduled to open in late July or early August at the Bangor Housing Authority complex.
Dress for Success Maine is running a Dress ME for a Dollar campaign. The goal is to raise $686,000, which represents one dollar for every Maine woman. Donations may be made at dressforsuccess.org/maine.
