AUDREY H. SMITH

MOUNT DESERT – Audrey H. Smith, 88, died June 30, 2012, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. She was born June 10, 1924, in Little Falls, N.J., daughter of Spencer Ryerson and Mabel Charlotte (Schoonmaker) Hawthorne.

Audrey was active in several businesses on Mount Desert Island, including pipe organ repair and tuning. She was an avid seamstress, and wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Audrey enjoyed her birds and her flower gardens. She was one of the founding members of Mount Desert Sailing Association and a member of St. Saviours Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor.

Audrey is survived by two sons, Phillip S. Smith and wife, Trudy, of Bar Harbor, and Mark D. Smith and fiancee, Frankie S. Barnhart, of Mount Desert; daughter-in-law, Judith Smith of Jamestown, R.I.; five grandchildren, Jana, Lauren, Jason, Lindsay and Darci; nine great-grandchildren, Tori, Lexie, Andrew, Orion, Callum, Audrey, Katherine, Stella and Zoe; and several nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Stoddart Smith; son, Dwight; and sister, Anita Merselis.
