VEAZIE, Maine — Veazie police are looking for a suspect or suspects who stole about 10 cases of beer and 40 cartons of cigarettes in an early Monday morning burglary at Veazie Mini-Mart on State Street, according to police Chief Mark Leonard.

A Bangor Daily News employee arrived at the store at 5:45 a.m. to deliver newspapers and found the front door to the business had been shattered. Police believe the burglary occurred sometime between 4:25 and 5:45 a.m.

The suspects stole about $2,700 in merchandise, according to Leonard.

Leonard said the phone lines into the building had been cut and the alarm system disabled.

There is a surveillance video system at the store and police are reviewing tapes in an attempt to identify suspects, Leonard said. Police also have taken items left at the scene that may have been used in the burglary as evidence.

Leonard withheld the brands of beer and cigarettes stolen for the purposes of the investigation.

Anyone with information related to the burglary is asked to contact Leonard or Sgt. Keith Emery at 947-2358.
