GORHAM, Maine — A 28-year-old Saco man was arrested Sunday morning after a brief car chase and charged with robbing a Gorham pharmacy for the third time in the past few months.
John J. Vernon Jr. was arrested for three counts of armed robbery, theft, terrorizing, eluding an officer, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal speed, and operating after suspension, according to Lt. Chris Sanborn of the Gorham Police Department.
Gorham police were alerted shortly after 8:30 a.m. that there was an armed robbery in progress at the Community Pharmacy on Main Street.
According to Sanborn, Vernon entered the pharmacy and demanded all its oxycodone. He left the pharmacy with the drugs.
Gorham Police responded and a brief chase ensued. Sanborn lost control of his vehicle on a roundabout in Gorham and crashed.
No one was injured, Sanborn said.
Vernon was charged with the Sunday morning robbery and for two previous robberies at the same pharmacy, the officer said.
Vernon is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
