BANGOR — Christian Corneil hit a two-run single to break a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning to help Bangor improve to 7-0 with a 5-3 American Legion baseball victory over Calais Friday night at Mansfield Stadium.
Calais had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the seventh when Bangor starter Justin Courtney was replaced by Andrew Hillier, who then got the save by striking out Calais’ No. 4 and 5 hitters.
Jeremy Beers turned in a solid pitching performance for 0-7 Calais as he scattered seven hits while striking out 10. Tom Collins sparked Calais with two singles and Adam Geel had a sacrifice fly.
Carl Farnham doubled and singled for Bangor while Christian Corneil chipped in with two singles apiece. Brendan Moore’s RBI double tied the score at 3-3. Winning pitcher Courtney gave up three runs and struck out six.
Hampden 7, Lumber 2
At Millinocket, Kevin Fredericks drove in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly to help Hampden record the win in a game that ended in the sixth due to a thunder and lightning storm.
Matt Palmer and Justin Kasprazak each chipped in with a single and two RBIs for the winners.
Dustin Sawtelle sparked the Northern Lumber with two singles and an RBI and Logan McLaughlin singled.
