BELFAST, Maine — Sidewalk work is under way in downtown Belfast.

Jeff Butterworth, who operates Butterworth Masonry, and Norm Gilmore, who works for the city, finished rebuilding a section of sidewalk on Belfast’s Lower Main Street on Thursday morning, June 28, 2012.

The section in front of the Green Store had heaved up from frost and was further damaged by salt applied during the winter.

Gilmore said he and City Manager Joe Slocum identified which sections of sidewalk need repair, and with a combined effort from the Department of Public Works and private contractors such as Butterworth, repair them.
