Orono police are asking the public to help identify the woman pictured in this surveillance system image.

ORONO, Maine — The Orono Police Department is asking the public to help identify a woman who allegedly gave herself a price break Wednesday at a local market.

The incident — which was captured on a surveillance video — happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. at Orono Thriftway Food Center on Park Street, Orono police Capt. Joshua Ewing said Wednesday.

Ewing said a female shopper was seen removing a price tag from a bottle of laundry detergent and replacing it with a tag from a lower-priced item. She then bought the detergent at the lower price.

Anyone who recognizes the woman is urged to contact Orono police Officer Christopher Watson at 866-4000 or cwatson@orono.org. To leave an anonymous tip, use the Crime Watch link on the Police Department’s website at police.orono.org.
