Sidewalk chalk art contest to be held in Brewer

By Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN Staff

BREWER, Maine — Artists of all ages and others who like to dabble with sidewalk chalk are invited to show off their skills at the Brewer Bicentennial Chalk Walk Sidewalk Art Contest on Saturday.

The Creative Arts Center is sponsoring the free outdoor event, which will decorate the sidewalk of the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge in Brewer starting at 10 a.m.

The chalk art will be judged in five categories — 12 and under, 18 and under, adult, family and team, according to organizer Steve Wong.

Judging will take place at 2 p.m. with the best chalk drawing in each category taking away a $25 cash prize.

Artists will get a 3.5-foot square sidewalk canvas to work with. Chalk will be provided for the contest, or participants can bring their own. No store-bought gadgets will be allowed, though straight edges may be used.

Space is limited and preregistration is recommended but not required.

Those who want to register or obtain information can call Steve or Teresa Wong at the Creative Arts Center, 945-3969.
