WATERVILLE, Maine — Authorities are investigating a suspicious Sunday evening fire at an Elm Street apartment complex.

The fire broke out in a second-floor unit, according to Waterville fire Chief David LaFountain. Nobody was injured but 10 tenants were displaced.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly and limit the damage, according to LaFountain. He declined to release the name of the tenants living in the unit where the fire broke out.

“The investigation we did that night yielded no accidental cause,” LaFountain said.

The State Fire Marshal’s office, along with the Waterville police and fire departments, are investigating.

“They are tracing as many leads as possible,” said LaFountain.

Fire officials from Waterville and Winslow responded to the scene, according to the chief.
