Speedway 95 racing rained out despite lengthy track-drying effort

By Larry Mahoney, BDN Staff

HERMON, Maine — Despite a valiant attempt to race Saturday night, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate at Hermon’s Speedway 95 and racing was canceled.

After a rain delay of one hour, 20 minutes that included a lengthy track-drying effort, track officials took a vote among the drivers to see what they wanted to do and they chose to try to get the racing in.

But just a couple of laps into the first heat race for the Bomber class, rain returned and forced the cancellation.

There won’t be a makeup date but fans who bought tickets can use those stubs to attend a night of racing any time this season.

A 50-lap Sportsman series race was scheduled for Saturday and that will be held next Saturday. That is the second of the three races in the series.

There will also be the regularly scheduled 35-lap Strictly Street series race.
That will also be the second in the three-race series.

In addition, next Saturday’s card will include a 35-lap Late Model feature, a 20-lap Sport Four race and a Bomber feature that will last either 20 laps or 20 minutes, whichever comes first.

The next racing at Speedway 95 will be the Wacky Wednesday card that will include a 50-lap Little Enduro feature that will pay the winner $500.
The winner of a regular Little Enduro feature pockets $75.

There will also be a 20-lap two-direction Little Enduro race if the they can get at least 10 cars. The cars will run clockwise for 10 laps and counterclockwise for the other 10.

All racing at Speedway 95 begins at 7 p.m. although the track will have bicycle races for children in four age groups up to the age of 12 beginning at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday.
