MOUNT DESERT, Maine — A local man died shortly after midnight Saturday morning after crashing his motorcycle in the village of Seal Harbor, according to police.

According to a press release from the Mount Desert Police Department, James Corbett, 36, was operating his 2007 Honda motorcycle on Route 3 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road near the beach.

The motorcycle went off the road, striking a curb before it came to a rest.
Corbett died in the accident, according to police.

The accident remains under investigation. Mount Desert Police officers Travis Frost, Ryan Lawson and Sgt. Kevin Edgecomb are being assisted by Ellsworth police Officer Chad Wilmot, who is reconstructing the accident.

The accident is the third of several incidents involving motorcycles that have drawn the attention of police in Hancock County over the past three days. It is the only one of those that resulted in a fatality.

On Friday morning, a Lamoine man was arrested after police say they clocked him going 111 mph on his motorcycle in a 45 mph zone on Route 204 in Lamoine.

That evening, a Franklin man was arrested by Maine State Police after he was involved in an accident in Bar Harbor and then allegedly drove off on his Kawasaki motorcycle.

Brandon Brown, 24, crashed the bike on Route 3 in Trenton after police say they chased him at speeds of more than 100 mph. Brown, who did not sustain significant injuries, was arrested on multiple charges including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, criminal speed, driving to endanger, eluding an officer and resisting arrest, among others.
