FALMOUTH, Maine — A Cumberland woman is dead and a South Portland man is in the hospital after a one-vehicle accident early Friday, according to police.

Casey Green, 22, died at Maine Medical Center shortly after the 2:45 a.m. crash on Route 100 in Falmouth, according to Falmouth police Chief Ed Tolan.

The vehicle’s other occupant, Matthew Blanchard, 24, was transported to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life threatening, Tolan said. He would not disclose who was driving, since the crash remains under investigation.

The Chevy Cobalt was heading northbound on Route 100 when it left the roadway on a curve, veered across the southbound lane and struck a tree.

Tolan said there were no skid marks on the roadway or signs of excessive speed. The vehicle was demolished.
