Van der Eb sparks Brewer win


BREWER — Schuyler Van der Eb pitched six innings of two-hit baseball to lead Brewer to their second American Legion baseball win of the season, 6-2 over the Hampden Riverdogs Wednesday night.

Van Der Eb had six strikeouts and three walks for the 2-1 Falcons.

Brewer was paced offensively by Nick Moore with a double and single along with a two-RBI single by Jeremy Bissell and an RBI single by Tony Bissell.

Shawn Smith takes the loss for the Riverdogs, pitching six innings and striking out six. Smith and Spencer Hartsgrove each had singles for 1-2 Hampden.

Bangor 17, Lumber 11

At Bangor, the Bangor Comrades outlasted the Northern Lumber as the two teams teams combined for 30 hits.

The Bangor pitching duo was starter Justin Courtney and Andrew Hillier. Courtney pitched four innings and came out in a 7-7 tie. Hillier came in relief and finished the game to earn his first Legion win.

Bangor’s top hitter was Christian Corniel with a double, triple and two RBIs. Hunter Boyce added two RBIs with a double and Bryan Rouleau had a double and single, both with RBIs. Seth Freudenberger contributed two singles and scored four runs for the 3-0 Comrades.

The 0-3 Northern Lumber were led by Matt Birmingham with four singles while Dustin Sawtelle and Jared Albert each had three singles.

Sawtelle started the game and pitched 107 pitches in a solid performance and Jordan Morrow finished the game with innings five and six.
