CMP parent chosen to build state natural gas line

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — The state has selected Central Maine Power Co.’s parent company to build a natural gas pipeline system in the Augusta area.

The Kennebec Journal in Augusta said Maine Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Spain-based Iberdrola USA, plans to begin construction on the east side of Augusta this summer, about 10 miles from a pipeline in Windsor.

The new system initially will distribute gas to state property throughout the capital region. Next year, the company plans to bring the pipeline across the Kennebec River and extend it to some other state properties.

The company says it will also serve residential, commercial and industrial users as soon as possible.
