HAMPDEN, Maine — Five young adults were charged with illegal possession of alcohol early Sunday morning after a Hampden police officer found them in an SUV parked behind the Circle K store on U.S. Route 1A.

Charged with illegal possession of alcohol by consumption were: Brian Duncan, 20, and Cody Noyes, 19, both of Brewer; Matthew Callahan, 18, of Frankfort; and James Potter, 18, of Orrington, according to a report filed by Hampden police Sgt. Scott Webber.

The driver, 19-year-old MacKenzie Coutts, who had not been drinking, was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.

The SUV caught Webber’s attention because the store was closed at the time. He reported that there were two cases of beer inside. The minors are scheduled to appear at the Penobscot Judicial Center on July 12.
