NORRIDGEWOCK – There is a new angel in heaven. Edgar Alden Nickerson passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 13, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 29, 1931, in St. Albans, to Glenn and Marion (Crocker) Nickerson.

At 10 days old he moved to Norridgewock, where he grew up and married the girl next door. On March 21, 1953, Edgar married the love of his life, Margaret (Frederick) Nickerson. Graduating from Skowhegan High School in 1949, Edgar was a member of the U.S. Air Force for four years, serving for one year in the Korean War. In 1962 Edgar graduated from the National School of Heavy Equipment, Charlotte, N.C. He worked for H.E. Sargent Construction Co. for 18 years. He was also an oil delivery man for Somerset Oil Co. Edgar ended his career with S.D. Warren Co. retiring in 1994, traveling to Arizona and Florida. Edgar was a member of Skowhegan Federated Church and a 33-year member of Skowhegan-Madison Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 2531. He held a Maine Harness Racing Association Grooms license.

Edgar is survived by a large and loving family, including his wife of 59 years; and their children, Rhonda Bolduc of Norridgewock, David of Dexter, Debra Merrithew and Warren of Readfield, Alan Nickerson and Rhonda of Cornville and Craig Nickerson and Kelley of Wichita, Kan. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were loved deeply by Papa. Edgar is survived by his siblings, Barbara Nickerson and Keith, Joseph Nickerson, Donald Nickerson and Darlene, all of Norridgewock, George Nickerson and Arlene of Northeast Harbor and Sharon Roderick of Fairfield; and his siblings-in-law, Geraldine Greenleaf and Bob Lapointe, Edward Frederick and Gloria, and Ruth Frederick, all of Norridgewock. Uncle Edgar is survived by many nieces and nephews, who were all very special to him. Edgar was predeceased by his parents; sister, Carol Moody; brother, Bruce Nickerson; sister-in-law, Rowena Nickerson; and brothers-in-law, Merrill Frederick and Lowell “Sonny” Greenleaf.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. June 30 at Sunset View Cemetery, Mercer Road, Norridgewock. Fellowship with Edgar’s friends and family will be afterward at Tewksbury Hall, Island Avenue, Skowhegan. Please come share memories, tears and laughter with us.
