Catcher Mindy Pye, who hit over .600 in leading the Bucksport High School softball team to an undefeated season and the state Class C championship, is one of four finalists for the Miss Maine Softball award, given to the state’s top senior.
The others are Kennebunk catcher Janelle Bouchard, Thornton Academy of Saco pitcher Julia Geaumont and Scarborough pitcher-shortstop Mo Hannan.
Pye hit .606 this season with five homers and 29 runs batted in as the Bucks outscored their opponents 250-9 overall.
She also did an exceptional job defensively for the 20-0 Bucks.
Geaumont led Thornton Academy to a 14-2 regular season and the No. 2 seed in the Western Maine Class A Tournament. She was 14-2 as a pitcher with an 0.84 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 98 innings.
She also hit .679 with 10 homers.
Geaumont was chosen the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
Hannan missed five games due to illness but was still instrumental in leading Scarborough to a 16-0 regular season and a berth in the Western Maine Class A title game.
The three-time All-State selection had 11 multiple-hit games including three four-hit games. She had a couple of homers and three triples.
Bouchard was instrumental in Kennebunk’s 11-5 season.
She had four homers and was Kennebunk’s catalyst with five multiple-hit games.
The award will be presented between the two Senior All-Star games, which will be played at Cony High School in Augusta on Thursday.
The Class C-D game between the East and West stars will begin at 4 p.m. with the A-B stars to square off at approximately 6 p.m.
