Bangor opens season with two victories

The Bangor Comrades American Legion baseball team opened the season with two wins over the weekend, beating the Brewer Falcons 10-2 on Saturday at Husson University’s Winkin Complex in Bangor, and topping the Calais Suns 14-10 on Sunday in Calais.

On Saturday, the Comrades were led by Christian Corneil who recorded five RBIs on a 5-for-5 night with a home run, triple and three singles. Brendan Moore chipped in with three singles and an RBI and Dylan Morris tripled with an RBI.

Tony Bissell recorded two singles for Brewer.

Bangor’s Curtis Worcester earned the win as he struck out nine in eight innings, allowing one earned run. Justin Courtney closed out the game in the ninth with three consecutive strikeouts.

On Sunday, the Bangor offense was led by Christian Corneil, Bryan Rouleau, Hunter Boyce, and Brendan Moore, who all doubled and recorded a combined four RBIs.

Greg Duff, Brendan Moore, Jordan Treadwell, and Andrew Hillier were the pitching foursome on the day as Duff recorded the win with four solid innings.

Tom Collins, Nick Barnes, and Ryan Lincoln paced Calais with three singles apiece.

At Hampden, Matt Palmer and Justin Kasprzak each drove in two runs to help Hampden beat the Northern Lumber 8-4 in American Legion baseball action Sunday.

Palmer tripled and singled and Kasprzak singled twice. Shawn Smith chipped in with a single, double and RBI.

Jordan Morrow and Logan McLaughlin each recorded three singles for the Lumber and Dustin Sawtelle drilled a two-run double.
