OTTAWA, Kan. – Mildred A. "Midge" "Millie" Pelton, 84, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Christian Care Cottage, Ottawa, Kan. She was born Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1927, in Orrington, daughter of Harry and Inez (Parker) Bowden, the last in her family of 10 children.

Midge grew up in Orrington, and also lived in Grand Rapids, Mich.; Eliot; Peaks Island; Fort Myers, Fla.; and North Fort Myers, Fla. In 2007, she moved to Ottawa in Franklin County, Kan., until her death. Midge graduated from Orrington Public School and Husson University, Bangor, earning a diploma in stenography. Most recently, Midge attended First Baptist Church, Ottawa, Kan. She was a former member of the Methodist church in Maine and the Presbyterian church in Florida; past member of PTA; troop leader of Brownies and Girl Scouts; member of Violet Club, Ladies Golf and Opera Group of Miami and Sarasota, Fla. Midge was united in marriage with Sherman L. Pelton, Feb. 3, 1950, in Bangor, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his passing Feb. 3, 2007.

She is survived by her son, Barry Pelton and wife, Hope, of Ottawa, Kan.; daughter, Karen Johnson and husband, David, of North Fort Myers, Fla.; son, Russell Pelton of Arundel; four grandchildren, Christine Carbaugh and husband, Tony, of Washington, Ill., Jeff Pelton and wife, Julia, of Washington, Ill., Brandon Pelton and wife, Mandy, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Haley Johnson of North Fort Myers, Fla.; and nine great-grandchildren, Makkedah, Seth, Courtney, Emily, Caleb, Maggie, Noel Isaac, Ada and Ellis. In addition to her husband, Sherman L. Pelton, she was predeceased by a great-grandchild, Jude Pelton; parents, Harry and Inez Bowden; nine brothers and sisters.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at First Baptist Church, 410 South Hickory St., Ottawa, Kan. Graveside inurnment will take place later at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. The family suggests memorial contributions to Christian Care Cottage, care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
