FAIRFIELD, Maine — One person was killed Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash on Route 201 near the I-95 interchange, according to police.
Fairfield police Chief John Emery said authorities aren’t releasing the name, gender or age of the driver until next of kin has been notified.
Emery said the vehicle was heading northbound on Route 201 at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, traveled on the opposite side of a guardrail in the southbound lane, went into the woods and struck a signpost and large tree.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the chief said. The pavement didn’t have any notable skid marks.
A team from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office will perform a reconstruction on the crash, according to Emery.
