Two hurt in rear-end crash in Holden

HOLDEN, Maine — A rear-end crash Sunday afternoon on Route 1A sent two people to the hospital.

Injured in the two-vehicle crash were Elaina Schonberger, 19, of Youngstown, Ohio, and her passenger, 20-year-old Kyle Mendenhall, whose hometown was not available, Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester said Monday.

Victoria Borth, 21, who was driving the other car, was not hurt, Worcester said.

The accident happened shortly after noon, Worcester said. He said that Schonberger, who was heading west in her 2003 Dodge sedan, stopped to make a left turn into a parking lot and was struck from behind by Borth, who was driving a 2008 Subaru.

Schonberger and Mendenhall were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center after they complained of pain at the accident scene, Worcester said.

Both vehicles had significant damage, he said, adding that accident’s cause appeared to be driver inattention on Borth’s part.
