SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Twilight 5K Road Race sponsored by the Maine Cancer Foundation will hit the pavement at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, starting on the Southern Maine Community College campus and Bug Light Park with 800 participants. The race, part of the larger Tri for a Cure Race Series, is open to men and women age 13 and up.
Proceeds from the race are expected to top $70,000 and will be used by the foundation to provide grants for cancer research, education and patient support programs in Maine.
The race will conclude with a performance by rock group Sly-Chi and food and beverages provided by Whole Foods and Shipyard Brewing.
Julie Marchese and Abby Bliss co-founded the Tri for a Cure Race Series in 2008 as a way for Maine women to raise funds and show support for cancer victims, patients and survivors. Now an annual event, Tri for a Cure boasts more than 850 participants and thousands of spectators.
