SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Police have identified a South Carolina man who was critically injured in a motorcycle accident Thursday.
South Portland Police Lt. Frank Clark said Monday that James Patterson, 39, remains at Maine Medical Center. The lieutenant added Patterson has a Scarborough address, while a hospital spokeswoman had no update on Patterson’s condition.
Patterson had allegedly tried to pass several cars on the shoulder of the Veterans Memorial Bridge on-ramp. He skidded along a guardrail for roughly 100 feet before being thrown from his bike and onto an Interstate 295 on-ramp.
The investigation remains open, Clark said, and a state police reconstruction team has completed their reconstruction.
“We’re waiting on the results of that at this point,” said Clark.
Police have not ruled out speed or alcohol as factors in the accident. Patterson was not wearing a helmet in the crash.
