Fire marshal investigating Friendship fire that destroyed two small buildings

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

FRIENDSHIP, Maine — Two buildings were destroyed by fire Sunday morning and the state fire marshal has been called into help in the investigation.

The two buildings were both about 12 feet by 16 feet, according to Friendship Fire Chief Kevin Benner. One was used for storage and the other was a fishermen’s workshop, he said.

The fire was reported to the department at about 1 a.m. Sunday at the property of James and Jill Simmons of Salt Pond Road.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown, Benner said, and the fire marshal has been called in to try to determine the origin of the blaze.

The buildings were about 200 feet from the couple’s house, he said. Cushing and Waldoboro firefighters also responded to the blaze.
